I think there is-

7100i = 400
7100t = 202
8700/8703 = 23D, 32B, 301

It is based on the network technology; not on the carrier or the model.

Thats good stuff. However, how do I tell what model of blackberry hardware is associated with that PIN? I called support and they were able to tell me the exact model based on the PIN.

What is described above helps determine the wireless technology they run on. Not sure about the model itself.

I don't *think* you can analyze the PIN to tell you what model it is. Not sure what support you called but the carriers can tell, and it is also on the BES.

I called BB T-Support. Unfortunately ver 3.x does not give model information (unless I am missing something).
