Default newbie connection problem

I recently got a hand-me-down blackberry from my college's president. It doesn't have wireless service at the moment, but I was wondering if there is a way I can get it to hold a copy of my e-mail messages and stuff while connected to my computer.

Basically all I want it to do is be a mobile e-mail reader that will update itself when I plug it into my computer to charge.

I have desktop manager 4.0 and the newest nextel software on the blackberry (nextel is who it was originally purchased through)

We have a blackberry server here on campus which I am added to. I am running Office 03 and Windows XP sp2

Any ideas?

If you have Blackberry server on campus, then you will need a wireless plan.
Since you are added to the Server, activate the wireless and you wil be able to receive messages with all the other perks of the Server.
Other than that there is no way to sync mail via the cable (as you can with Palm and Pocket PC)
