HELP!! - Filtering: Size/Attachments
I often get large images or files (5+MB) sent to my email address. Today i got 2 4MB attachments redirected to my blackberry.
Im assuming that the 8MB is going to be added to my monthly usage? (customer cupport is closed on Sundays or id ask them)
and the second: is there a way to filter out emails above a certain size limit, or filter out emails with attachments? Is there anything to solve this problem?
it doesn't download the attachment to your handheld until you initiate it (and even then, i find it hard to believe that you'd sit through an 8MB download). as for filtering, it all will depend on how you have emails redirected to your handheld (BES, BWC, Redirector).
I don't think there is a way to filter based on size of attachment (I would like that myself).
For the emails sent from BES or redirector, this isn't really an issue because there presumably isn't a size limit on your Outlook mail that matters here. As Jibi says, the entire attachment would not be downloaded to the BB unless you explicitly asked for it, so wireless usage will not be affected either.
For BWC, the best you can do is recognize when a large email has been sent to you, and then delete it on the BB. If you have set up your blackberry to synchronize with the BWC inbox, then it will be deleted there and not overflow your space allocation.
You'll only get approximately 5 kilobytes (0.005 megabytes) added to your monthly usage (guesstimate).
BlackBerry doesn't automatically download attachments - You have to manually download. Even so, the size is usually downconverted when viewing. When viewing, it does not automatically add that many megabytes - downloading usually only takes a few kilobytes to a few hundred kilobytes, depending on what you are doing... Viewing the contents of a zip file, or viewing one attachment of many, or viewing an image (downconverted in size), or a PDF (stripped of its images), etc.
