No. You must be fully connected to the RIM data network (GPRS, NXTL, 1X) for a PIN message to be sent. Just like an e-mail.

Thumbs up

I am sorry but that is incorrect, at least in Verizon. I do not have the data or e-mail plan yet set up because i am waiting for my company to pay for it and I am able to send PIN messages with no problems. I have spoken to Verizon about how I will be charged for tham and until the data/e-mail plan is activated they will charge at the rate of 0.0015 per kilobyte. I have sent quite a few and been able to receive the responses with no trouble at all. BTW I am using version 4.0 of the OS if that makes a difference on a 7250.

'cause that certainly doesn't work on any of the GSM providers?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7520/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.12)

It sounds more like they have activated you data/email, you just don't have a plan yet, so they are going to charge you for every bit of data. So the original answer is correct you cannot PIN message without activation.
