Default Alarm clock

Please Login to Remove!

I'm using the Blackberry 7280 and the alarm won't alarm. Everything is set properly, but it doesn't sound off. When I remove it from the holster, then the alarm goes off. Yes, I have it set to sound both in and out the holster. So what gives?

All I can recommend is tripple checking the settings, sometimes you think something took and your forget to save or something stupid.

Did you try changing the ringtone?

If all else fails, run it through application loader, make sure its erasing the applications but selecting the advanced button and checking erase all applications and all application data. Make sure to make a backup first.

I had a problem once where my BB wouldnt ring even though the settings were correct and refreshing the handheld software seemed to clear it up.

However... if you are a deaf guy and you NEED a portable vibrator alarm, then the Blackberry is one of the best I have ever found.

It has never missed a single alarm for me, and successfully woken me up for important appointments. I have to make sure it is close enough to my body. The pillow usually works well, but sometimes I have to wear some bedwear (housecoat, or whatever) and put it in a pocket of that bedwear. I use the keylock feature to prevent accidental button presses.

The bugginess of the alarm feature might be a very OS-dependent feature -- at least one version of the BlackberryOS may have a bug in the alarm feature. In either case, it is more reliable than a PocketPC or Palm alarm. It might reflect device usage, bugs might pop up under certain conditions that I am not witnessing (i.e. phone use, holster use, etc.) I usually use the alarm without the holster, though...

However.... the alarm can be confused if you manually power off the BlackBerry. Be very careful of powering off, or using automatic power off, when using the alarm feature. DEFINITELY enable the snooze feature (1 or 5 minute), so that you're forced to dismiss the alarm and that it cannot be easily accidentally dismissed inside a pocket. I believe you can adjust the volume or the alarm, so you can have a phone-ringing style sound for the alarm.

I especially like the vibrating reminder feature of the Calendar, which is something I had always wanted.

Default calendar setting in "profile" suppresses alarm

I just discovered that the "calendar" alert setting in your active "Profile" affects the behavior of the bberry alarm clock. I had my calendar alert tone set to "none" in the profile I use at night; this causes the alarm clock to not alert AT ALL (not even a popup on the screen). I confirmed this by changing my calendar setting in the same nighttime profile to a tone, and then the alarm worked.

I find this very annoying because I have lots of "all day" appointments on my calendar, and I don't want to hear alerts for them at midnight! Does anyone have advice on how to separate the two alert behaviors -- one for calendar events, and the other for alarm clock? (Blackberry 7250)

It appears weird to me that you have this problem, my 7520 has the ideal behavior and these two are not interfering with each other.

I agree, it's wierd behavior. But in my Profiles > Edit, I don't have a separate setting for Alarm Clock. Only Calendar (and some unrelated stuff). I wonder if hte 7250 (mine) is missing something they did for the 7520 (yours), or if I have an old OS version, etc.

Why not just set the reminder in your "All Day Events" to Off when you input them? Then you wouldn't have to worry about them. Or set your default work time to 8:00 Am, instead of Midnight. I think that's the way my outlook works, but I maybe wrong in this.

Hope this helps.

rcbjr,
Thanks for the suggestions, but neither will solve my problem. I need those alerts for "all day events;" and I already have my default workday starting at 7:30am...

right in the Alarm screen it should have the option to set a tone for it. At least mine does.
