And I say that because I'm checking every few days to see if OS 4.2 is available yet, but I can never find out, because I keep getting that message!
This is happening to enough people that there's at least 1 topic about it over at Howard Forums. It's been going on for at least a couple weeks. | | Offline

Dang it, why's it taking them so long to release 4.2 for the 8700g? It's already been available for the Pearl for 2-3 months! | | Offline

Until then, I say shame on T-Mobile for making us 8700g users wait so long to have functionality that Pearl users have had since October or early November! Shame, T-Mobile, shame! | | Offline

| ...more functionality, though. And don't blame it on TMO - they just certify what they're given (and I'm not even sure if RIM has given them 4.2.1 yet, to be honest).

All I know is, I want a version of 4.2 that's not a beta version, and I don't want to be waiting 6 more months for it... or 3 months... or even 1 month! If it's RIM's fault, or T-Mo's fault, or the fault of the beta testers, I don't really care at this point. All I know is someone needs a fire lit under their arse so we can get this update YESTERDAY!
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! | | Offline

| I think we'll see something closer to the release of the 8800. If not, I believe we should be able to 'hybrid' that installation to the 8700 devices, to be perfectly honest (although there may be issues with the whole trackball/trackwheel thing).

| Phone change? What if you tricked the TMo server by changing what your is phone. i.e. Choosing the Pearl as your phone then update the phone? That work?

| Well... It was a thought to try out. All I get for updates is the same OS v. I already have (.346) I hate it. I see others with higher versions and wonder "Does TMo just not fix there servers right or something?" I thought RIM gave them an earlier OS version, even after 300 refreshes, then it gets funnier.
"Hi, what's your newest OS version for the 8700g"
TMo
"Uh, we have 4.1.0.477"
"But it says on the web site 4.1.0.346"
TMo
"Uh take the battery out and reinstert it then it will work"
"The Bb, why does that work?"
TMo
"Uh, let me transfer you"
I then hung up, my wife was cracking up cause this was on speaker and could here it.

| Okay Here it is. This is three different calls asking for APNs. However, the third was a service call. Check out:
"PDA support..."
"I was wondering what other APN settings there are?"
"Um, let me find out here. Do you mind being put on hold?"
"No"
"Okay..."
This when I got an error code, radiop path unavailable.
"PDA support..."
"Hi I was asking about other APNs for my device?
"What's an APN?"
"An internet gateway, you know, a TCP for web browsing. I have wap.voicestream.com, but I heard that there are others."
"Uh, I think you have the wrong number."
"This is TMo PDA support?"
"Yes, hold on, I need to ask my boss what all this is..."
CLICK
This one I call at 1200 am and got through almost 50 minutes later
"How may I help you?"
"Yes, I have a data connection refused error where my carrier is, why?"
"Um, well, let's reset your service connection. I need you to take out the battery."
"Done. Nothing changed."
10 mins later
"Oh, now I know why, your zip code area is having data service cuircuts maintance and won't be up until its up"
"Well, can I make a suggestion.... Next time this happens, send out free texts to the affected people warning of this."
"Thanks I will pass this on. We never have tried this before."
"Bye"
"Bye"
Yeah. 2 hours almost for that.
