Default Outlook settings when using B'berry as modem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me what settings I need to make in Outlook (specficially 2002, but I guess it's similar for all releases) in order to be able to send and receive mails from there when using my Blackberry as a modem for my laptop PC?

I'm thinking that I will need to make settings in "user", "Logon" and "server" information within "email accounts" but to be honest, I don't know where to start.

Thanks and regards

Depends on how you are using Outlook. If you are using a corporate setup, involving an Exchange server, then you will likely need to connect via VPN in order to use the email client. If you are simply using POP3 access, then you will need to put in your correct POP3 server and login/password. If SMTP is restricted (which it most likely is), you will not be able to send emails through it (unless they restrict to login/password SMTP, in which there is the settings for it).

I use Outlook and can set it up as jibi described. Once 'dialed up', I just fire up the corporate VPN, then Outlook.

In practice, though, I find that I'm only after one or two message attachments. Retrieving all of my yet-downloaded email isn't very efficient at the BB's slow modem speed.

So instead, I access the company's OWA server and pick off only the messages I want to download to my PC. Everything else can wait until I have a broadband connection.

Default Outlook Settings with 7100T as a modem

Hi all ... I have just set up my 7100T to work as a modem for my Dell laptop ( this forum was so helpful ) .. I would like to be able to send emails once connected using my Outlook and/or Outlook Express ... any ideas on how to set-up the "Outgoing Mail" SMTP field in the email account SERVER page?

Typing is a bit faster and attachments and the like ... I knew you were asking WHY?

Thanks for any info ...
