If I am somehow able to get my UK O2 BlackBerry Pearl (8100) unlocked so that I can use a different SIM when I am travelling internationally. Will the BlackBerry still be able to connect to the BIS server correctly with different providers SIM card inserted?

i.e. I don't think it's worth bothering to unlock the phone if email won't work.

You have to understand WHY people get their BBs unlocked...

Most people get their BB unlocked to use it on another carriers network all the time - for example, suppose you are a Vodafone customer (UK) with an O2 BB that you got. You need to have it unlocked to work on Vodafone.

In any event, to get e-mail, your account must have a BlackBerry Data Plan on the SIM account. So it you took it internationally and put in a pre paid voice/SMS SIM card on it, you could not get your e-mail.

Unlocking it is only good if you want to sell it, or if you want to permanently use if with another carrier.

yes you can provided that the Vodafone SIM has the correct (BES) data plan. The BES doesn't care what network the device is on...

But the OP was asking about BIS. Can you get email from another carrier's BIS?
