Exclamation Switching from 8700 to Pearl BES Question

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All:
I currently have an 8700g and my IT dept was nice enough to add me to their BES server before getting my promotion (at my job, certain positions get company provided blackberries, and since I had my own, my boss convinced them to add me as a promotion was in the near future!). Anyway, here is my question: I just traded someone for a Pearl and I wanted to know, if I pop in my SIM to the Pearl, will I just be able to do a EA and sync to the BES server or will IT need to be notified?? I would hate to bother them for this if I can take care of a switch myself. I noticed in the new DM 4.2, there is a "Switch Devices" option, but I am hesitant to use it, I really just want to make a flawless switch without any issues.

Can someone provide some input? I have tried searching but between all the threads touching on this, I have confused myself. Thanks!!

1 - You can contact them for an EA password
2 - Open up Desktop Manager and make sure its configured for your email account; connect the device and the EA process will start. You MUST be on the network (WAN/LAN or VPN) with your email account accessible in order to do this.

Thanks Jibi. They provided me once with a password when I was first added to BES, and then once again when I upgraded my OS. It was the same password both times. So you are saying that I would need to connect it to my DM on my office computer in order to do this right? If so, I would need to do an EA while the device is connected to my office pc? Is there no way just doing an EA on the new device without connecting it to a pc?

The BES admin has to provide you a password for each wireless EA. Whoever it was just happend (or decided) to use the same password each time for you. If you don't want to involve IT, then you'll have to perform an EA via USB by syncing. Otherwise you'll have to request another EA password (they "expire" once they're used).

ok, so it's not that their BES has a standard set password, but in fact that they will always need to "reset" a password for me in order to activate?

But you are saying that I can do an EA via DM thru my desktop without having them provide me a password? Also, can I just download the newest version of DM 4.2 and do it that way, or does IT have to do something special to DM? I am just confused at this point, once I hook up via USB to my work computer, do I start DM and and from the handheld do an EA?? Or is there something else I need to do from the DM (i.e "switch device wizard"?)

sorry for ignorance, I just want to get this right without going thru hell trying to switch to the 8100.
