I manage a nation wide operation that involves Pocket PC's, we just started using Blackberry devices and I know I will have to do some troubleshooting of these devices remotely (Through a PC to PC connection) does anybody out there know of a program that will allow me to control the blackberry connected to my PC from my PC?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

as for direct control over the handheld, i am unaware of anything that will take the place of a physical human, currently. in the future, perhaps.

Maybe you're talking about BES? That's about the most control you can have over a device, though it's mainly through IT policies and the like. No direct "terminal" like control though

i just suddenly got this odd imagery of a person looking down at their handheld and seeing my face looking up at them... eek! sci-fi anyone?

There are some third party applications that work in conjuncion with the BES server for better control of the handhelds. The BES server 3.6 only allows limited control, such as kill, policy, etc. BES 4.0 has some newer features and remote activation, pw reset, etc.

Now a new Third Party application we are testing is SonicSentinel.

This has features such as:
Heartbeat monitoring
Real-time control of your mobile devices
Send real time control commands over the air including:
Delete email and email attachments
Delete contacts and address book data
Lock a mobile device
Shutdown a mobile device
Hard reset a device to clear all memory
Erase removable memory cards
Interface (web based) is rather cumbersome to use, but has a ton of info and promise.

We are told their true version (release 2.0) will have more functionality and a better interface. This is expected to be released in next month or so.

So far with our testing the heartbeat helps us know if a client is really experiencing issues or just turned off their device for starters. We like to be proactive for our executives and such. (currently 180 users and another 100 license pack bought.)
