Or do you have to do it manually? If its auto what is the interval?

TIA

Need a little more info like what email service you are using, and if you are BIS or BES?

If you turn on your Reconcile (Mail > Options > Email Reconciation, it will be automatic on BIS, however there is a command to RECONCILE NOW, under mail, should you wish to force it.

However, not all BIS accounts will do 2-way reconcile.

I'm using bis but am also curious about bes since my company has that. I am using bis with pop3 to my gmail account and when I delete items on my BB they don't delete from my gmail for quite awile unless I force reconsile

What determines which will and which will not?

I guess I should speak of only how it works for me, like you said not knowing the email service he is using.

If you want the true BlackBerry experience, get on your companies BES and take advantage of all it has to offer. However, if you want to stay on BIS only, I have found that the only email accounts to reconcile 2-ways are Yahoo and Gmail, as I believe they have agreements with RIM, and an OWA account.

What's "quite a while"? A minute? 15 minutes? 30 minutes? An hour or more?

As far as I know there is no reconciliation with BIS/POP accounts.

With a BIS / POP account, all you have is the ability to permanently delete (doesn't go to the trash) an email from both the BlackBerry and the POP Inbox from the BlackBerry. At least this is the case with Yahoo Mail Plus and Gmail. IMAP accounts may behave differently.

You should receive emails within 15 minutes, although my Gmail accounts typically come in within a minute.

With BES you should receive your email within seconds of it arriving on the Exchange server (and I assume the Notes/Novell servers for those setups). However, marking Read and Deletes (which DO go to the Trash) happen within 15 minutes. When you send an email it goes out and hits the Exchange server immediately.
