Default SMS Charges on Cingular?!?!?

Please Login to Remove!

I get charged for RECEIVING text messages on cingular?
(i come from Canada, so i apologize if this sounds stupid).

but my friend text messaged me with one of those free internet textmsg senders.. and i got charged 10 cents for each msg. So what if someone's spamming me with that, and send me like 600 txt msgs? i'm on the hook for 60 bucks?!?!

:(
pls advise how you guys deal with this?

Yepp. Your carrier will not separate out received from sent. There are somethings that can be done with regards to spam and unwanted solicitatin. There is a website to put your cell number on a do not call list. I am uncertain as to if this includes SMS but I am sure there is discussion for the very reason you raise. I would also recommend you contact your service provider for guidance also. Even if you do a little SMS, you should have about a 250 plan in your back pocket.

Don't bother trying to block SMS or MMS with the BlackBerry's firewall settings. Sure it'll block them just fine, but the charges will still apply.

I haven't been spammed, but I did miss several txt messages from my ordinary cellphone carryin' friends and was charged just the same.

Oh well. It's only a $1.20 a dozen.
