I have searched this site, Blackberry's site and AT&T's site for a link to download the 3.6 image as I need to downgrade a 4.0 6210 to 3.6. I found the "download" FAQ entry but there are no known links to the 3.6 6210 image.

"Why would you want to do this?" you might ask. Well, we are currently developing a product for java-based devices and due to a bug in BES 4.0 (in IT Policy management) we can't test and verify that our IT policies work without having to do a security wipe on the device (and with the 7100t, it takes 15-20 minutes to cycle a security wipe completely - much longer than that when you consider the time it takes to process the enterprise activation for the device.) We have some 6210 devices but they have all been upgraded to 4.0 and we do not have any copies of the 3.6 images.

For those that may not know, IT Policies cannot be modified on 4.0 devices from a 4.0 BES after the device has already received the policy. Blackberry confirmed this for us recently but I'm not sure the 1st level support engineer wasn't just trying to get us off the phone. If any BES aficianados out there know how to modify and deliver IT polices from a 4.0 server to a 4.0 device, successfully, we'd love to have the magic sequence of steps to get this accomplished.

In the meantime, we need the 3.6 download so if someone has it and could post it via FTP or know a link where it already exists that would be extremely helpful. Once again, we need the 3.6 image for a 6210 AT&T Blackberry. A link to the Javaloader.exe would be an added bonus.

Uninstall OS 4.0 from the Desktop. Install this. Delete vendor.xml from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\. Open Desktop Manager and install via Application Loader.

...but won't that pre-empt AT&T/Cingular service? I'm not all that knowledgable about how other provider images play in a different provider's sandbox.

Nope. The OS is the same, from vendor to vendor. Just remove the vendor.xml file and you will be fine. I have an image for the Cingular 7100g loaded onto my T-Mobile 7100t. Many people did just this when upgrading to OS 4.0 when other vendors had their versions out earlier than their own provider. Now, certain providers have released updated versions of OS 4.0 and some of us have chosen to upgrade to their version for stability purposes. The OS is an OEM, so to speak... some vendors, such as T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2, may choose to add a theme or ringtone, but the core OS is the same no matter what.
