Default Timeline for AT&T branding to show up?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone. If this has already been addressed, I apologize. I live in IL - Western suburbs of Chicago. I've been in a few Cingular stores to ask when they should expect to change their name, signage, and logo's on the phones and BB's. None of them had any clue. This maybe petty. I'm about to buy a 8700 BB from Cingular, however am holding off, because I would hate to have the Cingular name on a devise when the company won't be around any longer. I went through the AT&T/Cingular conversion a few years back and it was terrible. I know this is a petty question, however to me it's important. Are we going to see any big changes when it officially becomes AT&T (again)!

Take Care - This forum has been a wonderful place for info!

Nope. It's just a rebranding. Same company. Same network. New logo and name. I wouldn't worry about it. The company will be around -- it's nothing like Cingular's acquisition of AT&T Wireless. AT&T, AT&T Wireless, and the new at&t were three totally different entities, btw so it's not "AT&T again" by any means. Changes will mostly be to offer integrated packages with the rest of the parent company. SBC/at&t had been a majority stakeholder in Cingular from the beginning when Cingular was created from the union of ~11 regional wireless carriers. Their acquisition of Bell South just gives them complete ownership. The rebranding is more akin to SBC becoming at&t: same old crap, new logo.

The logo on the device is really irrelevant anyway -- especially with Blackberries. I use TMO and Cingular BB's interchangeably and with other carrier's OS's. The splash screen and name on the front are purely cosmetic.

If you intend to wait until at&t-branded Blackberries are released then it might be quite a wait as they'll need to deplete their on-hand stock of Cingular Blackberries...

Does anyone know when the carrier name on the screen of the device will change to at&t?

Just curious mostly. Since the marketing campaign from Cingular to at&t is heading into full swing you'd think they'd have all the phone's network ID change to at&t. Unless it's not an easy change...

Actually, I was just talkin' about the "cingular" that shows on the phone as the network ID. I thought they would've changed it to "at&t" by now.

Maybe that's a marketing campaign of its own. I remember when AT&T became Cingular and there were commercials about people waking up to see their phones being different but the same..lol

Default Not really

Anyone know why AT&T orginally split? The sherman Anti-Trust Law of 1923. This cause AT&T mobile to become Cingular under a different branch. I don't think though that we are getting the full of it. Cingular is still Cingular under AT&T. They can merge but under a different name. If AT&T takes the mobile company as its own again. They are violating an agreement held back around the late ninties. So, no AT&T can't brand mobile phones. Only Cingular due to the act said above.

Yes, the Ma Bell breakup was a result of a US Dept of Justice suit against the AT&T telephone monopoly. Cingular was born of Bellsouth and SBC.

Umm... but they are. There's already photos on the net of new phones with "at&t" branding on the handset.

Believe me, I'm gonna cry when I have to buy a phone that says "at&t" on it. I really wish they would have kept Cingular.

So, SBC is the landline co. But what I don't get is how AT&T is also supplying broadband internet. And Bellsouth is both a WSP and land line. So where is AT&T now? Are they once Cingular now back?

In SoCal, landline service was SBC and has since changed to at&t. My bills now show at&t.

So, out here, landline and cellular is now at&t.

SBC, BellSouth and AT&T are now one. SBC, which "merged" with AT&T, decided to use the AT&T name. SBC merged with AT&T. The new SBC merged with BellSouth, acquiring all of Cingular. They are all now part of the AT&T umbrella.

They will market voice, data, wireless, broadband and TV services. They will even have cell phones and BlackBerrys with the new AT&T logo.

AT&T was split up in 1980 as part of the beginnings of deregulation. This is a result of consolidation (also why Verizon bought MCI and Sprint bought Nextel).
