Default transfering the firmware to another device

Please Login to Remove!

hello all

i just go hold of a unlocked BB8700 ver 4.2.1.37. i think its beta but i am not so sure. the cool thing about it is that it fully supports Arabic reading and typing.i have two main issues with it:

1. how do i transfer the rom or firmware to another 8700 device like the one i am using. i would really like to have arabic support on my 8700 but there is no way i can download the arabic enabled ROM. all i have is this device.

2. the new ZEN theme on this phone is buggy. for starters it does not allaw you to re arrange the icons. if i tell the device to go and download extra themes it reports to me that there is no themes avalable for my version. is there a way to force it to use the old ZEN theme ?? if so where to download it?

3. is there a way to have a seporate icon for SMS messages. ZEN did that but i don't know how to load it to my device.

TIA

You can't, OS updates have to be done via a PC, no way around it.

The ZEN vers is prabably from the previous OS install, there should be an organize applications option within "options" You probably can't download themes as there are none for an OS that has yet to be released.

3. is there a way to have a seporate icon for SMS messages. ZEN did that but i don't know how to load it to my device.

Yes/No, unlike a new message (mail icon) and SMS message will have an italics message (mail icon) beside it.

1. so is there a way to dump the OS to the PC and restore it on another device (i dentical hardware ofcourse)

2. there is no such option under the options menu. i guessing that because its beta. but why cant i force it to download another theme. the "BB dimention icon" is identical to my old 8700. i am not sure why there are some compatibility issues.

3. i really really hate doing several clicks (messages icon, alt-S) to filter SMS messages. it is so much easier if i just use ZEN and have a seporate icon for SMS

Nope. Finch meant that OS updates must be initiated from a PC. You can't "retrieve" an OS from a device.

If the device has 4.2 it's definitely beta and there's no telling what issues are due to bugs and what issues aren't... Only a few of us have really even worked with the 4.2 beta.

There should be 4.1 versions of the 8700 software that are easily downloadable and multilanguage.

4.1 only supports readind but not typing in arabic. the only real issue i'm having is the seporate sms folder issue that normally solved by using the zen theme.

A) You won't be able to get any support here for Beta software. There are few that have ever had it, and even fewer that are ALLOWED to have it. There's virtually nothing we can do to help.

B) Since you're looking to port to another 8700, why not just get an 8800, with a full release of 4.2?

There's little we can do to help you with this thread, friend.
