Default Cingular non-BES customers please answer...

Please Login to Remove!

If you are a Cingular Orange customer (not Blue/AT&T), do not use BES, and use any of the 3rd party programs that require an internet connection, such as VeriChat, IM+, Webmessenger, Pocket Express, etc....please answer this for me....

Look on your bill under "Data Details".

You should see two types of data.

1) "Data Transfer gprs email"
2) "Data Transfer wireless int"

Nobody should be charged for #1 as that is included in the Unlimited Blackberry plan. Were you charged for #2? Is there anybody who was not charged for #2?

Cingular's website is now down, but if I remember correctly, I was not charged for any data other than the Unlimited BB plan and SMS messages.

I use both the BES and BWC. When I browsing, I use both the Cingular and Blackberry browers. It is my understanding that the Cingular brower does not use the BES, but Cingular WAP servers. I confirmed this by trying to access internal websites using Cingular's browser.

I hope this helps.

I'm looking for people that use 3rd party software, such as VeriChat, but without MDS/BES. The "data details" section of their bill will have charges that look like this:

"Data Transfer wireless int"

I'm just wondering if anyone out there was not charged for this use, i.e. the price next to that line is $0.00. I was charged $0.01 per KB.

I keep hearing people say that they are not charged, but nobody seems to want to answer the specifics of what is on their bill, so I'm thinking that all Cingular users must be charged for this data and those who say they are not charged just haven't gotten their bill yet or else they use BES/MDS.

I think it's clear that Cingular charges for this.

The "Data Transfer gprs email" line items are included under the Unlimited BlackBerry plan. But the "Data Transfer wireless int", which includes any 3rd party program use, are charged at the rate of 1 cent per KB if you use wap.cingular. I think if you use isp.cingular, then they assume you are using it with an external laptop and they charge you 3 cents per KB. Either way, it is far too expensive except for occasional use.

So now I'm debating whether or not the shell out $10/month for a myblueberry account so I can have MDS. Or else I may just do without IMs for now and wait until RIM releases their own AIM/Yahoo program. I'm sure that program will be covered under the Unlimited BlackBerry plan.

I'm working on the same issue. I need ssh about twice a month, so paying cingular for wap.cingular may not be so bad.

Does a hosted BES account give me enough goodies to merit the $10/month?

Hosted BES account is explained in my "Hosted BES FAQ" in my BlackBerry FAQ link below.

One additional big advantage is Wireless Outlook synchronization. You add something to Outlook, it shows up on BlackBerry within a minute, and vice-versa. You also get a much bigger email box than BWC. If you pay more for a Mailstreet type account, you can even use your own domain name.

something asked but not answered in the faq or elsewhere is, Is there a BES only option? I've got my own exchange, and don't desire to pay for that. If there was just a hook that one could connect up their own exchange to, it would beat the 1400 for the BES SBS software.
