I need quick answers whether it is possible or not. My CEO will be travelling overseas and expects to be away for weeks or months on end and he wants to be able to access his blackberry but do not want to incurr roaming charges. Hence, is it possible for him to sign up for blackberry services in another country but set up his BlackBerry device to access our BES server which is via a different telecom network in another country?

I know he probably can still access his BIS so long as he has gprs or 3G but will the Blackberry network of the other country allow him to route his mails via his home BES to his new location?

Anyone with such an experience or work around, suggestions, are greatly welcomed.

Call your carrier and talk to them about an international plan.

If the BB is GSM (Cingular or T-Mo) you might be able to buy a SIM with a BB Plan where ever he is going so the calls will be local. The is the only way I know of. Other choice would be to buy a BB from a carrier where he is traveling.

BIS isn't going to work with another carrier as BIS is carrier-specific. BES doesn't care which carrier you use as long as you have a Blackberry data plan that allows for BES access. If he must have BIS while traveling then you'll have to get an international Blackberry data plan and incur roaming charges on voice calls. Otherwise, you can get a foreign SIM with Blackberry data plan. Just note that it's extremely unlikely that you'll find BB data offered with prepaid.

Thank you all those who replied. I did contacted the telcos concerned and also checked with RIM directly and confirmed that BES connection is not Telco specific and so long as the handset has BB connection, it will connect. As for BIS, takeshi is correct, it is carrier specific but he would get a new account anyway once he signed up with the new carrier.

You will also need to make sure his device is unlocked in order to work with another carrier's SIM card.
