Default Releasing PIN to switch carriers

Please Login to Remove!

I started a new topic since my problem is first-time activation. I bought a new, unlocked 8100 from Vodaphone in Asia, without a service plan; want to use it with a local carrier here in Brazil. I purchased a local service plan but can't activate it online as the site won't accept the PIN which is locked to Vodaphone. Vodaphone's tech support in Hong Kong and England just keep sending me to each other. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If they are saying it is locked to Vodaphone, then you did not buy an UNLOCKED one and will have to see if Voda will unlock it for you... If not then it is useless...

Vodaphone had to be the one to unlock it....

I assume the phone is a GSM model and Brazil's network is also GSM?

Thanks for the replies and yes, Brazil is GSM. The phone is unlocked in that it works normally with local SIM cards, but only for voice and SMS service. A local phone company called Claro supplied a contract for BB services; but to activate BIS I need to register the PIN online, and that number is not accepted on Claro's BB site, apparently because it is associated with Vodapone. I have spoken with Voda in Asia and in England, and they seem to know nothing about releasing the PIN... I don't even know if that's possible, technically speaking.

It sounds like it's not "locked" just that the PIN is associated with a BIS account on Vodaphone. Vodaphone will need to delete that BIS account to free the PIN.
