Default Software

I realize this might kind of be a noob question but I spent quite a while trying different software and couldn't get the application loader to work. I've got a 7100g and I got it off ebay unlocked. I'm in Montana and the provider I use is not listed on any of the software lists. Which software do I need to get in order to load programs on it? I loaded the software that came with it on the disk and was able to get it to sync with outlook just fine but would give me the "no system software was found" when trying to load applications.

It really doesn't matter what version you use - it is all written by RIM and tested and released by the carriers.

FIrst thing I'd do is locate and delete VENDOR.XML from the PC C: drive, and then restart Desktop Manager. It should detect your BB and try to check out what software is installed.

You may want to install the latest version of the 7100 code; the list of all vendors and their sites is at BlackBerryOS 4.x Download FAQ - UPGRADE DOWNLOADS

I already tried downloading the new software, but it wouldn't even detect my bb. I just went to the cingular download page and selected 7100g from the list and downloaded the 4.1.0.314 software and it wouldn't find my bb when it was hooked up. Did I download the wrong one?

What do you mean it wouldn't detect your BlackBerry? You have to start Desktop Manager and then it should detect it.

When I installed the software that came with it , thats the way it worked. I just started the desktop manager and it detected it , but the new software wouldn't find it when it was hooked up the same way.

I installed a little bit older version(3.xxxx). It detected the bb , gave me the same message. I removed the vendor.xml file, restarted the desktop manager and am still getting the same message, but it gives me an add button and wants me to put in an Application Loader File with .alx or .ali file extension.

I found the .alx files from tmobile and cingular and they both give me the error "no additional applications designed for your handheld were found". Is this what I need to do to install other applications on my bb?

You don't need to touch them. Again, here is the sequence:

- Shut down Desktop Manager
- Download the Handheld Operating System
- Execute the file you just downloaded
- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML on your PC C: drive
- Restart Desktop Manager

It should find it and load any new applications or the OS.

What i'm wanting to do is install other games and java applications to my bb. Is this possible or do I still need to download the os? I going to the cingular site and selecting the 7100g and none of the three versions would work, there is something wrong with the site, it just gave me some java script code instead of letting me download the file.

Sorry about that, guess I was over complicating things. I found the instructions on handango on how to do what I wanted. Thank you very much for your willingness to help.
