I have a Blackberry 8700C and am running Office 2003 on Windows XP.

I have been able to synchronize my 8700C with Outlook using the USB
cable. However, I have not been able to do such a synchronization
using Bluetooth.

When I use the Bluetooth connection setting software, it connects my
8700C to the computer via port COM40. However, the Desktop Manager
software does not have COM40 in its list of possible connections. Thus
I have not been able to connect and synchronize via Bluetooth.

I artificially made the 8700C connect via COM6, which exists on the
Desktop Manager. (The Bluetooth connection warned against that.) I
could not make that work either, and even managed to send the computer
into blue screen mode (I haven't seen that for a long time!).

Does anyone know whether Bluetooth synchronization is possible, and
how to do it.

From everything I have seen and heard, BT on the 8700 is only enabled for voice, not data. I know the thread from the previous post says otherwise, many have not been able to get it to work.

I have tried to follow the directions referred to by junior1790, but the required connection ports do not appear in my desktop manager. So I still cannot do synchronization via Bluetooth.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

If you can't get BT sync to work odds are it's because you're not using the Microsoft BT driver. There's a RIM knowledgebase article on this which probably duplicates whatever is in that thread but it should be easier to read.

It's definitely not voice-only unless all the GPS users are just imagining that they're using GPS... ;)

on the 8700? The 8800 yes for sure.

I just noticed a post in the 8700 section that said GPS will be enabled in OS 4.2 whenever that comes out. Maybe thay will make synch via BT easier as well.

8700's (and 8100's) require a GPS puck. There are plenty of discussions here on using GPS on the 8700 and 8100. Stinsonddog's sig even contains a link to his site which has a page with a lot of useful info on GPS and the BB.

Got my 8700 to sync with Outlook 2007 using Dell laptop with Windows Vista using a Targus BT 2.0 after updating the drivers in the device manager. Before doing that it would not work--the "enable bt" box was greyed out.
