Default Changing profile based on charging status

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to have the ringing profile change based on its charging status?

My old Nokia and Motorola used to allow a switch to another profile once you started charging it. That was very nice because I could carry it around all day in vibrate mode, come home and put it on my desk connected to the AC charger and it would automatically switch to my loud profile.

I know that the holster attempts to do the same type of thing based on the presence of the magnet. However, I still would like to be able to switch profiles based on power status.

Does anyone know if this can be implemented through a 3rd party Java program?

I know C & some Java, and if there are any developers on here -- can you please let me know if using the SDK it is possible to access power status and to change profiles?

Thanks.

No existing method that I'm aware of. I'm guessing an app could be developed to do this. Someone could make a killing on a more general profile switching app as others are definitely interested in profile switching based on time of day...

Default Not possible

Hi everyone,

I went on a hunt regarding switching profiles in the SDK and Blackberry knowledgebase.

Apparently, it is not possible to programatically switch profiles. That really sucks and I think unfortunately that's a big hole in RIM's architecture.

Here are some links that confirm this:

It is a big hole in my book. And unfortunately, it's a hole in other platforms as well, such as Windows Mobile. Fortunately for WM, there is a great 3rd party app called PhoneAlarm which lets you set up multiple profiles with custom notification types, turn on/off Wi-Fi, BT, phone, etc. based upon a calendar busy item, time of day, etc.

I'm currently exploring switching from an HTC TyTN (WM device) to a BB Pearl. My main complaints about WM are the size (of my particular device) and stability (of WM as a whole).

So far, the BB is rock solid. It just works. It's always fast and don't slow down with hours of use like WM. And I'm loving the navigation and the size of the Pearl. But you have to do without certain consumer niceties such as 3G data, more browser choices, Wi-Fi, HTML email, a 2MP camera, and a flip out nice sized QWERTY keyboard.

I just can't believe most platforms don't incorporate automated profile switching. At least my Treo 650 had a ring/vibrate hardware switch on the top!
