Default Cingular/ATT blackberry.net email change?

Please Login to Remove!

I searched to see if this has been discussed already and could not find anything...

With Cungular changing it's name over to att, will the free blackberry.net email address change as well? So if I have "johndoe@mycingular.blackberry.net", will they automatically switch me over to "johndoe@att.blackberry.net"? Or at least give me the option of switching to the new address while allowing me to keep the username before the "@"?

I just ported to Cingular and got the username I wanted, but want to switch ot over to the @att.blackberry.net without losing my username.

What happend to the BB users who had att when cingular took over? Did they get to keep their att address?

From what I read, they will want to dump the cingular name ASAP. More than likely they will do a change and you should be able to keep the name you have. I dont remember seeing any ATT.blackberry emails addresses but maybe someone here can say if there was.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I am sure they will notify us Cingy/ATT customers of any changes.

I sure hope they change ASAP. Who is the person with Cingular that thought mycingular.blackberry.net was a good idea?? :P

Yeah, it's kind of like talking about yourself in the third person.

My *guess* is that they will either do it via attrition or they will do a behind the scenes redirect to the att address.... I can't imagine Cingular expecting millions of BB users to change their email address (some have had it for years)

But this is just a *guess* on my part...

It will be something similar (with my experience) to when Voice Stream changed to T-Mobile.

The way I see it as time goes by everything changes. Embrace change, it's just not a big deal......

I don't think it would change. Here's my reasoning....

The Starbucks in my area has wifi hosted by AT&T. When you open the browser it askes you for your AT&T login info. It has a form box where you enter your username then a drop-down box to choose your domain name. Among the domain names are names of companies AT&Thas bought out...like "SWBell (if I remember correctly)...

So, from seeing this, I would assume that people that already have Bellsouth.net will keep that and new users will get an AT&T address.

...again this is just my educated guess from what I see on their log-in screen...

Greetings MajSingh, You post does not reflect your location so I thought I would ask. The reason is that I use Starbucks WiFi everyday and here in the US it's hosted by T-Mobile.

Thanks for your response.
Cheers.....

Thanks for the laughs (at myself).

I have been using the service from day one when it was still owned by the startup company, then purchased by T-Mobile. I use it every single day somewhere, like Starbucks or a hotel that I'm staying at while traveling for business. Having traveled all thoughout the West, thereby making the mistake of "assuming" it was that way everywhere in the US.

Thanks for your response.......Cheers......

Well it's what they did with Sextel (Sprint/Nextel)

The nextel accounts were migrated to sprint.blackberry.net accounts.

I found that out today because I used to have a name registered with Nextel when I had my 7510 and 7520 and I tried to re-use the name when I got my sprint phone and it said that the name was already taken.

You really shouldn't be giving that address out anyway... It's best to restrict it for use in forwarding mail to your BB.

Talked to Cingular today to change my email address. I asked if they were changing mycingular.blackberry.net and she said she has not heard anything about it changing.

Here's a screenshot of wht I'm talking about. As you can see on their sign on screen, all of the companies that ATT has bought is still listed which would mean those customers kept their old email addy's..

I kind of like the mycingular address....

I have signed up for service in the last few weeks and was given a @mycingular address.

It just sems like it would not be worth the hassle to convert and that future migration with new service would be the easier route.

I also called Cingular and they believe the email addresses will change because their company email addresses are going to change.

Now that the name change is relatively complete, I did some searching and discovered that the BlackBerry page now lists '@att.blackberry.net.' Does anyone know when this will be implemented?
