Oh, aiharkness, I have been looking around this forum just haven't found anything helpful about this. I have read a couple of times about wiping the BB clean or deleting everying on the desktop and reinstalling. I need to go back and read some more about that because I have no idea how you are supposed to reinstall all the programs back on the BB.

TMO = T-Mobile

Not sure of the differences between T-Mobile and the other carriers in this respect, but when the Yahoo push function was first implemented, emails read on the BB would be marked read on Yahoo, and ditto deletions. From reading the forum, I'm aware that isn't/wasn't always the case with other carriers, and the Yahoo push didn't necessarily work with some other carriers. Anyway, the mark read and delete sync is one way, BB -> Yahoo.

T-Mobile, guess I should have known that..or been able to figure it out.
Anyway, signed in and out of Yahoo on my computer at home this am then tried signing on YIM and same thing happened. No cache to clear (just in case), so took out the battery etc.. and after having to hit 'cancel log in' and retrying a couple of times, I finally got on. So, have not figured out the 'secret hand shake' yet, but I guess in the scheme of things, this is a minor irritant.

thanks, and have a great day.

UserInVa, looking back, I think one of the threads on a problem similar to your email problem is "undependable email push" started on March 17. Some of the suggestions in the responses were (a) possible issues with the BIS on the carrier's system, (b) problem with the service books (try resending), (c) possible corruption of internet mail setup (delete and recreate).

I am having the same issues for the past week. Call Yahoo support at 866-562-7219. Hit 0 and ignore the warning, hit 0 again and you will get a person. They tell you they can't help but if enough people call they will get the idea that this is a problem.

I will look for that thread. Since I have deleted and reloaded the YIM software on the BB a couple of times now, I expect that isn't the problem.

Off this subject question: Why do some people put their BB PIN numbers under their signatures here? What's the advantage?

The Yahoo support number was unhelpful, totally.

People will put their pin their sigs so other Blackberry Users can PIN them or use BB Messenger to communicate

I've been having problems signing in with Yahoo!Go, but my push email and T-Mobile IM app are working fine... I'm guessing it has to do with my TIM .66 OS update. It worked before that, but I'm not going back just for Yahoo.

drgoodtymes: Thanks! Another thing I have to look up! But thanks for responding.

Still having the sign on issue. Twice now had to take the battery out...then try again and along with a number of old emails coming through, am able to get on YIM. I'm going to the Verizon store soon, I'm going to ask them about it. Maybe it's my BB. I'm thinking the hard-reset requirement to get my emails to come in is a sympton of something.

Thanks.

I was able to finally long on this am, but logged out later and now can't get back on. I've tried every secret handshake including hard re-set 3 times and just won't let me on. I sent a messge to Yahoo customer service but I am not holding by breath they will be any help. I guess if others are having the problem also then it isn't my BB.

Ok, I am another victim of the Yahoo Messenger on BlackBerry sign-on issue. I have used Yahoo Messenger for BlackBerry many times in the past on my VZW 7250, then stopped using it for about a month. When I tried to use it again starting a week or so ago, I've not been able to get in since. I've also dutifully gone through the basics....ALT+SHIFT+DEL, yank the battery, uninstall and reinstall, etc....no luck.

The only thing I have to report that I've not seen reported by anyone else yet is that sometimes when Yahoo does this and I abort the login after a few mins of non-response, it completely kills my data connection. What I mean by this is that although I have the capital "1X" in the connection strength indicator, any messages sent to or by the device in this state are frozen until a soft-boot takes place. The symptoms are that when I PINg myself (a trick I'm sure I'm not the only one uses to verify connectivity), outgoing messages are shown to be waiting for a data connection, as indicated when the clock icon is observed next to them. New messages are not delivered to the BlackBerry no matter HOW long you wait for this state to clear. I've actually intentionally left my device in this state for a period of 6 hours and even overnight once, only to find the condition still existing afterward. Cycling the wireless state DOES NOT resolve this issue, and the three-finger salute MAY or MAY NOT fix it depending on the type of reboot that the BlackBerry sees fit to execute each time this key sequence is given.

It may be of interest to note that I first noticed this behavior associated with Googletalk for BlackBerry a while back. I stopped using Googletalk and the problem went away. It seemed that it was related to signing out of Googletalk, because while the app was running and I was signed in, I didn't experience this "data outage" that I can recall anyway.

I used to think it was only my device until a close friend with another VZW 7250 asked me if I had seen such phenomenon when his started exhibiting the same behavior - not coincidentally - after he loaded and started using Googletalk.

On another note, I haven't done any serious research yet, but can someone briefly explain why it is that the BlackBerry will NOT always do a full soft-reboot when using the ALT+SHIFT+DEL key sequence? ....or why it is that sometimes the device will go through it's quick reboot cycle (not losing anything in memory, mind you) on it's own?

Ok, so it's not just my BB. Just an FYI scorpionutv, I don't have Googletalk on my BB. I've never done the ALT+Shift+DEL thing or the PINg thing and also never noticed the data outage issue you have described.

An aside, I never could get back on to YIM today and was told by a friend that the IM's I sent this am when I was on, were never received.

Ok now that is interesting. See, after reading everything in this thread and replying with my experience, I decided to play a bit with Yahoo Messenger (for BlackBerry) again.

The first thing I did was try to sign in again. This failed. I aborted it and tried one more time...also a failure.

The second thing I did was to change the user ID to the primary account ID (the one I had been trying - that had worked in the past - was an alias to the primary...anyone who uses Yahoo should know you can create alias to the primary ID to have various user IDs without the hassle of separate accounts) and this WORKED. I was logged in almost instantly, and my buddy list came up without any problems. I logged back out without sending any messages.

Next I changed the user ID back to the alias account, and attempted login again. This resulted in a failure. For the sake of being thorough, I next changed the login ID back to the primary and tried to login again and THIS, TOO, FAILED.

Now convinced that it was just luck that I was able to get in with the primary ID, I went back to the alias and tried a few different times, each time playing with the 3 login options until it worked again, and I was able to get in as the alias ID.

Upon successfully logging in, I sent a message to a friend who happened to be online. He did not reply for 30 mins, and he never replied to my second message, so I'm thinking he probably received both of them but was too busy with work or whatever to reply to the second one.

I will keep playing with this to see if I can figure out something constant with this silly app. I am almost 100% convinced that this is a network or connectivity issue with Verizon or Yahoo because I've used this app in the past and it was always been rock solid until just recently.

Hopefully we'll get some more people in this thread that have this same issue so we can narrow down the cause of the problem a bit, as well as what all of us have in common (carrier, device OS, etc).

To get things started, here is my info:
Carrier: VZW
Dev OS: 4.0.0.204
Yahoo Ver: 1.0.95

We'll see where this goes...

I have only logged in under my primary ID. I still can't get on, just tried again. My info is the same as yours:

Carrier: VZW
Dev OS: 4.0.0.204
Yahoo Ver: 1.0.95

Thanks for responding and trying to figure this out!

I was finally able to get on this am. First I sent myself a msg to the BB email address. Did not come in. Hard reset, the email came in and then was able to log on. Also still waiting for a response from Yahoo customer service about this issue.

I think this is a Yahoo issue, not a carrier problem. Just my thought.

I am having the same problems. I have done everyone else has. I have even deleted the program and reinstalled it. I get on but it takes awhile and is not constant on how many times I need to try to log in and cancel. I do think there is something wrong on yahoos end. I have a Blackberry 8100 software version 4.2.1.66 and on T-Mobile. I did uninstall the IM client that came with the Blackberry since it uses SMS and not data. Not sure if uninstalling that caused a problem. A friend of mine has an Blackberry 8700 that doesn't come with any IM client so I don't think that is the problem. It would be interesting to see what os verison, Blackberry model and carrier of the people having this problem.

I think it's safe to say it's a Yahoo problem the past couple weeks, since they seem to be having multiple problems with other things besides just the BB YIM!, like the mobile site and intermittent slow email delivery to the BB. All these things I've only just had happening to me the past couple weeks, before that all worked pretty awesome.
