Default laptop internet in china?

Please Login to Remove!

hey guys, im with cingular but would rather not have to get the international plan for china for only a few weeks and have to lie about the wap.cingular to get the internet to connect on the laptop. anyone know if i can get some sort of gprs card or something for china? if not whats the easiest way to get another sim card from cingular with the international plan and get em to add wap.cingular so it lets the laptop connect. i have on bb with the regular unlimited plan and i had them add wap.cingular (made up something about a ssh program not working without it), i cant take that bb with me so not sure how hard its gonna be to screw cingular over again :S

Are you actually going to be mobile, and not in a hotel or something? Typically you can get very very cheap pre-pay WiFi access, but of course it depends where you are... (city vs country etc.)

In Hong Kong (I know, it's not China) I paid like $10 USD for... 20? 30? hours of WiFi use, it was dirt cheap.

Like to know as well.

Rivviepop:

Hong Kong was returned to China a few years ago, so it is China.

Ho boy, don't say that to the locals unless you want a fight. They are not 'mainlanders' (I won't share the pejorative here) in their own eyes, it's night and day.

http://www.answers.com/topic/mainlander

Crossing the border between the two is immediately noticable in both social and economic ways, even to an outsider (gweilo) like me. I was living in West Germany when the wall came down, and experienced first hand that while both groups were Garmans, the East and West viewed themselves as entirely different peoples. I liken Hong Kong's return to Chinese control in this same light...

hehe lets not even start to debate the special admin regions

i will be mobile for most of the time, sadly what i do requires that i use a laptop, i dissapear for a day and all hell breaks loose :(

i have some business to deal with in hong kong, GZ, and a few places in Fujian but will be taking the train and go on some tours to see the country, if there is no internet near by im screwed, would be cool if i can get away with some local gprs provider or something, if not id just get another sim from cingular

anyone know how quickly they can get me a new sim?

The easiest is to get the correct tethering plan but it appears you're going for cheapest. Pick your poison...

You are right that "the East and West viewed themselves as entirely different peoples", but they are all German, that's for sure. Same thing here, the word mainlander is different from the word China.

I am going to visit Hong Kong next month... We'll see how different they are..
