Cool BB = Confusing Reset Nomenclature

Please Login to Remove!

In the Palm OS there are three resets. The two important ones are simple. Either do a soft reset from the pin hole which re-initializes the system, like a pc re-boot, or depress a key combination for a hard-reset and wipe the device (like a pc reformat of hard drive).

But for the BB, I find Internet references to a hard AND soft reset where both use the same key combination (alt, cap, del) or the pinhole. And neither result in a loss of data. Why not call BOTH of these a soft reset?

The "true" hard reset is done from the desktop. I'm sure their must be a key combo, but I don't know what it is.

What are you trying to do? Wipe the device?
Options > Security Options > General Settings > Trackwheel Click > Wipe Handheld

A soft reset is basically the removal and replacement of the battery.

A hard reset (complete wipe) can be done with Jl_Cmder or like poster above said. A soft reset is done either with a battery pull or with a software app called SoftReset.
