Default So...how easy is it to get away with water damage?

It seems to be too easy....I opened up the 8700 I have and the Pearl I have, what in the world was blackberry thinking? No water indicators on the board itself at all, and only 1 on the housing of the phone and one on the battery. Depending on the water damage, if it is light enough it can be cleaned up so easily that no one would know what the hell happened to the phone other than it just doesn't work anymore. The only other phone I've seen like this is the Sanyo Katana which had NO water indicators at all except on the battery! Motorola has water indicators in the LCD housing, on the back of the housing, and one on the mainboard to see water damage. I can't believe a company like RIM which charges so much for it's devices is so lenient with something like water damage.

It looks as if my 8800 through Cingular has water indicators on the phone and the battery, the one on the phone appears to be a very small square in the upper left corner under the battery, and then one on the end of the battery.
I make sure to keep denatured alcohol handy just in case mine should happen to take a spill into a pool of water, it has saved me a couple of times along with a number of family and friends also.

Yea that will definatley save your phone if you're quick enough with it. Most people though let their phone dry out for all of an hour or so and turn it on, thats when they reall kill, shorting everything out, even though it most likley would have continued to work had they waited a few days, or only a few hours if you know how to take the phone apart.
