Default Question regarding activating a unit on BES

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BES (version 3.6 I think) and a unit that's a 7290. The user had a profile before his old blackberry broke and when I put the new one in to update the PIN, it did so - but then just sat at Initializing. So I installed the Desktop software on his workstation and created a new encryption key on that and it sat at working for about two hours.

At this point I realized that nothing was going to happen on it and just gave up on that, deleted the users profile in the BES and reinstalled the user on it.

Now it's still at initializing, the Desktop software does the same thing and when I change any options on only his profile on the BES it won't let me click ok or cancel on his profile sheet.

Any ideas? I'm at wits end.

Exclamation

Not sure I understand what you have done entirely.

You had a 7290, then replaced it with another 7290? Switching the SIM cards?

Yes we switched the SIM cards and apparently the new device had a different pin number assigned to it (I know very little about BB's) and so I tried to update the BES with the new units PIN number. And that didn't work for whatever reason because it's just sitting there with the status of initializing.

Wipe the device first. then re-activate. My experience with 3.6 is that devices didn't always activate OTA. I used to initiate he OTA while it was plugged into the computer and that combination seemed to work best for me.

OK apparently a wipe of the handheld didn't work - trying to OTA it just sits there generating e-mails saying it's trying to activate and when I cable it up to the system, every time I hook up to the desktop software, it asks me to create an encryption key even if I just did one thirty seconds before.

Any other ideas?

Its going to ask for an encrytion key after you wipe it.

I want to get this straight: So you wiped it, plugged it into the computer, checked connection settings to make sure it sees the PIN in desktop manager and then on the BB, open up enterprise activation, and put in the user mail address and activation password to activate? Also, make sure the radio is turned on first. On my BB's it doesn't always turn it on after the wipe.

Oh, and reset the activation password for good measure.
