Default Email Connector Problems

I had a email account thru BIS using our webmail setup on Exchange 2000 and everything worked fine. Our company upgraded to Exchange 2007 (No BES) and now neither the webmail access setup nor the mail connector will work.
I can get on webmail from the office fine, but when i try to set it up in BIS I get a "Connection could not be established" error.
With the mail connector on a station that works fine with Outlook I get a "There was an error connecting to your email account during validation" error. This is with using the Outlook profile or with the manual settings.
I would like to get either of these to work, please let me know if I am missing something or what I need to do to get it working.
