Default Question about Email Integration / BIS

Please Login to Remove!

I am thinking about moving over to the world of Blackberries from Treos. I have a question that I was confused on when researching how email is handled on blackberries:

I want to use a BB for integrating my work email. We dont have a BES, so I will need to use the Blackberry Internet Service. My quesiton is - how easy is it to setup? Do I have to forward my email directly to my new BIS email address or can I simply enter my work email username and password and email will go to my BB?

Thanks.

You can simply enter it into the web interface and it will be picked up and pushed to you every 12 minutes. I prefer forwarding it to the BIS address though, as it comes instantly. I just set the reply address to what I want and no one knows the diff.

If you have multiple emails being forwarded to you, that's no prob too. The BB will autoselect which reply address you use based on which account recieved the email.

It has worked flawlessly for me so far...

BIS works just like a POP3 account. I have 5 different accounts set up on BIS and they work great, both personal and business accounts. Email is pushed from RIM to my BB every 15-20 minutes, or so. I do not consider the delay an issue at all.

Easy to set up and requires no maintenance unless something changes.

you know how BIS asks you for your full email address and then extracts your username? is there any way to manually enter your username instead of BIS guessing? Reason I ask is that we use groupwise at work. needless to say groupwise is crap, but I after doing some research there is a known glitch with groupwise's POP access that requires a few parameters be included in the username field to prevent messages from being delivered multiple times.

Any ideas?

I put in my email address as the user name and it worked fine. On some setups, you may have to do it manually or used the advanced options.
