I am able to receive SMS messages, but can not send them. I've searched for answers, tried a few things and can't get it to work. When I send an SMS message I get a little red X next to the message. When I open the message it says "-Unassigned Number"

Any ideas? The number is good and in the format nnn-nnn-nnnn. I even tried adding a 1 to the front of it. Not only can I not send SMS to this person from my address book, but when they SMS me, and I reply, it also fails.

Does the recipient have SMS?

kreedy, on your BB, go to Options > Advanced > Sim Card. Do you have your number entered where it says PHONE NUMBER? If not, click to EDIT SIM PHONE NUMBER.

my number is in there.
and yes....the person I am trying to sms does have it. They text me and I am trying to reply.

What cell carrier?

kreedy, can you SMS anyone else, or only not to this user?

One, make sure with your carrier that you have SMS, it could be disabled on your account for some reason. Also, pull your battery and reboot the phone, just in case, won't hurt.

I just tried to message another number and it does not work. same message "Unassigned number".

Like JSanders suggested, contact T-Mobile to verify their system shows you with SMS capabilities enabled.

I think I'll have to contact t-mobile. Something I was hoping to avoid...my track record with them isn't stellar.

The fix is in!!! Thanks to t-mobile support. First I ahve to give props to them. The guy that helped me was friendly and knew what he was doing. I have not always had great service from them, but this time It was awesome.

the fix....what he had me do was:
1) Be sure the message center number (options / SMS) is programmed in correctly. The message center number is +12063130004. It was not. This didn't fix it however.
2) He had me change 'Network to send over' (options / SMS) from GPRS to GSM. Funny thing is, I ahd read an article online that said change to from gsm to gprs....so basically I was changing it back to original setting.

After a re-boot....it worked. So if you can't send SMS messages. Besure the message center number is good and be sure you're on GSM.
