In the last 30 days I have used the Pearl and the 8800. I now own an 8800.
This is coming from someone who, at the end of the day, prefers a qwerty keyboard. I absolutely loved the slim, light Pearl but just got tired of the 10% of the time SureType did not work for me.
If I had to choose another BB, it would be the 8700.

I dunno..I think I'll have my answer this weekend. The more I use the 8800 keyboard the more I don't like it. Anyone else using a 8800 and not like the keyboard, specifically the spacebar?
I normally use the Pearl. I only swap to the 8800 when I need a GPS (one or two weekends a month). I figured Ill keep a $250 phone around to guide me rather than spend $600 on a Garmin and so far the 8800 GPS + Telenav hasnt let me down.
The keyboard on the 8800 isnt as good as the 8700 but I dont mind it and can type pretty fast on it so its not a limiting factor.

It's all personal preference. I have a 8700r here and I love it.. Had a 7290 before and I love the qwerty keypad. Looked at the pearl (8100) and I thought I would break it if I ever dropped it.. 8800 is my next choice or I am gonna wait for the next one up. GPS I already have in the car, and the camera's on phones suck to be honest with ya.

I've been using the 8100 since it first came out on Rogers and I totally love it. I've been using my friends' 8800 to see if I should upgrade and I'm not totally convinced. I'm completely used to using the SureType on the 8100 and can type just as fast as I can on 8800 so QWERTY isn't that big a deal. Personally the size of the 8100 is a huge factor. It fits perfectly in my pants pocket or jacket and doesn't feel too bulky.

If you still can't decide then just keep them both and use whichever one does it for you that day...

It definitely is personal preference. I'd stick to the 8800 but I also can't stand SureType. It's never a bad idea to have a spare BB as a backup/replacement. I also have a 7290 for this purpose (had an 8700 but gave it to someone to replace a dying 7230).
