yep but you only get 1 number percontact so if you have one person with 3 numbers they will be listed 3 times once with each different number! Not sure how to make it happen though

I believe there is also a limit on how many you can transfer to the SIM but I don't recall that # off hand.

It is an official PITA.
Mine are backed up on my Mac and my iPod.
Passed on the SIM backup.

Z be right, it will only transfer one number per name and nothing else so when you stick your SIM card into another phone only the names, and number will show (no address etc.).

Quote:
There are currently two type of Sim Cards, Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 only has 3K of Memory for storing alpha-numeric numbers. Phase 2 has 8K memory and stores more alpha-numeric numbers and more SMS. Also the cards can be set up differently. For example you can have more room for a name for a number but his cut's down the amount of memorys that you can have. Also the amount of SMS storage affect's the amount of room left for number storage. Most Sim's use between 5 and 15 SMS areas, but 5 is the most common.

Well when i first got my 8100 i was saving my numbers and then i took out the sim and put it in another phone. then i realized that my numbers aren't on the sim i was like wtf? so i had to each individually save each cantacts to the sim. My question is that is their something or an option, that when you save a contact number that it will automaticly save it to my sim card? If someone knows this answer please BB Message me thanks

The BB does not allow a direct save to SIM, it's just a missing option (as opposed to a Moto, Nokia, etc. which do allow that to be set). By default almost every phone - including a BB - uses the "Mobile" field as the number to copy to/from a SIM chip, so that's where I store all my numbers. NOTE: by default when adding a number to a BB, it does *not* default to the Mobile slot, you have to cut/paste the number over; it's a pain.

Your standard (old) 16k SIM can store 125 numbers, a 32k/64k can store up to 250 (no, a 64k cannot store more than a 32k - the extra 32k is used solely by the carrier to store tower type information, MNC lists and all that). Some 16k SIM chips can store 250 as well, but it depends on which spec it adheres to in the GSM world. An old, old 8k SIM can store 50 or 80 entries depending on the spec again.

FYI, the "Last Name" field in the BB (and most other phones) is what's used for the copy to/from SIM -- so, I typically store the crucial bits all in Last Name and Mobile fields in a phone.

Yup:

Phone Book -> menu key -> SIM Phone Book -> menu key -> Copy All to Address Book

...drink beer, watch magic happen.
