Question Sim Card Unlocked?

Please Login to Remove!

I bought an 8800 from a Cingular store and decided that I wanted to get it unlocked for future European travel. I contacted Cingular customer service, and about 5 days later they called me with the unlock code. They said I should shortly receive an email with the instructions.

In the meantime, I looked in this forum for the directions, and how to determine if the unlock code really worked. I have done NOTHING on the phone yet.

I went to Options/Sim Card and it says "Sim Card Security Disabled"

Does this mean that the phone was unlocked when I got it?, or am I interpreting Sim Card Security Disabled to incorrectly mean that the phone is unlocked?

Thanks

Go into Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card
Type MEPD
Let us know what it says next to 'Network'.

Thanks.

Oh well, it didn't make sense to think it was shipped unlocked.

I guess I'll just wait for the directions from Cingular, or follow the ones posted somewhere in the forum. Are they fairly idiot proof?

Sim security is when you lock your sim with a pin number.

Same as all other devices -- contact your carrier or use an unlocking service.
