Default Blackberry 6280 usable in Australia??

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, quick question here: I have a Blackberry 6280 (well several of them) and was wondering if this phone will operate in Australia. These phones are currently locked to a Canadian carrier and I need to know if they will work here before I go to the bother of unlocking them. I cannot make emergency calls on them and when I go to status it says no coverage - which makes me think they wont. Yet I have seen these phones advertised here on online shops but as far as I understand Optus, Telstra and Vodafone operate on the GSM 900 band, while these phones are GSM 850/1800/1900. Can someone please clarrify this for me.

perhaps you should call the perspective carrier and ask them if they can give you service on the phone if it were unlocked.

The 6280 is NOT a good BlackBerry for use outside of the US. It really was designed for Cingular/AT&Ts use in North America. Without that 900 MHz band, it is not a good choice for your needs.
