I have a unlocked 8700g and am currently using a Cingular minutes plan with their BIS Personal plan ($29.99). Since the phone is unlocked I was wondering if it would be possible to simutaneously use a Cingular voice plan and a TMO data plan (it's only $19.99).

If people have done this, what are your experiences? Signal aside, are there any noticible usage differences or issues that come up?

Can not be done. It's either one or the other.

When the phone is unlock, all it means is you can use different SIM card for the phone. For example, you can use Cingular SIM card OR T-mobile SIM card for the phone.

The SIM card didn't occur to me.

Damn, that's too bad. 29.99 is kinda a rip for the BIS plan . Oh well, it'd be a lie if I said I didn't love it.

Even if it did work, TMO's $19.99 pricing is only available if you're on their $29.99 voice plan.

So hypothetically, you'd have a $29.99 Cingular voice + $49.98 TMO. I guess you're saving money sticking with one carrier.

Sure would be nice to pick and choose components of service though.

$29.99 is a deal compared to certain other carriers who don't even offer cheaper BIS plans... Not to mention the non-US carriers that don't even offer unlimited BB data plans. If the $10 is a big hit for you then you really should switch to TMO.
