Don't forget in many cases (especially in my experience - Cingular) a battery pull might be required to bring the device back onto the network.

I was pleased to see that Opera mini worked when nothing else would. I was able to check my mail from there just fine.

Not really doing the trick here...Both of our 8800's have been bouncing off EDGE and on to GSM for the last 12 or so hours..

Here in SF, 08:00 PST today (4-19), service was back to instantaneous -- emails hitting an account were on the BlackBerry within a second or two. I also woke up to several backlogged ones waiting on the device as well, so sometime overnight they must've gotten caught up.

Yes, I will agree with you that the phone has not been replaced by email, but the entire scope and landscape of how business is run has changed because of data communication services, such as email (and mobile email). Depending on your company, considering either as non-critical non-replacements for traditional communication devices, such as the phone, would be an oversight, imo.

Do I think that BlackBerry is a high priority critical service? At my former company, the largest conferencing provider in the world, I would say 'No' in most cases. At my current company, I would have to say an emphatic 'Yes'.

And I would posit that any business that is that reliant on a technology like the BB, to the oint of any outage having a clear financial impact needs to seriously review their model.

This was an interesting one for me in australia, our BES's all work from the srp.ap.blackberry.net or srp.au.backberry.net nodes. Then to have one BES drop out that for some reason was conntect to the srp.na.blackberry.net node, couldn't figure out why that one wasn't working and all the others were fine!

Have you tried to reset?
I fairly sure there are no rim outages today...
