In order to have either BES or BIS I need a blackberry data plan?

Or can I get BES or BIS and one of those comes with a blackberry data plan?

Also, will gmail messages show up on my main screen with just BIS?

I signed up my emails in BIS, but nothing happend. Must be cause I dont have a blackberry data plan?

In order to get any e-mail, you must have a BlackBerry Data Plan.

No BB dataplan no email or Internet. A dataplan gives you access to BIS and/or BES, not the other way around.

@acnell

Your posts are a bit confusing to me...

Here it is in a nutshell:

You need a data plan to get email... Data plans are either BIS or BES... BIS is for personal use while BES is more for corporate...

BIS will poll the email about every 15 min or... BES is instant....

Gmail will work on BIS.....

I use Gmail because my emails are pushed to my BB. I noticed that you said yahoo as well. I don't see where yahoo will do this unless you pay for the premium email service. If it's possible with regular yahoo mail I would like to know how.

From what I read with the new bis update yahoo is now pushed. I'm not sure whether you need the premium service or not because I don't use yahoo.

Checking yahoo requires POP access to your email. POP access on yahoo does not work unless you pay for premium Yahoo email. I doubt Yahoo will let BB users get POP email for free .. because lots of people pay for their service for the purpose of checking pop email. That is why I used to pay for it, until I just decided to go gmail.

Makes sense. I wasn't sure.

Guys, both yahoo and gmail are push. Yahoo and RIM have a deal worked out for push and for reconciliation.

I understand Yahoo does but you have to pay for the premium email service. Gmail is free.

...and you can only get a Blackberry data plan from your carrier. Hosted BES does not replace a Blackberry data plan -- they're two entirely separate services.
