| When opening the Desktop Manager, do you see "disabled" or "disconnected" at the bottom? If so, click on "Options" and then "Connection Settings" and choose "USB" from the drop-down menu beside connection and hit "Detect".
If this can't find it, try the following.
Plug the USB cable into a rear USB port instead of on of the front of the PC. If this is a laptop, right click on "My Computer" and then choose "Properties". Choose the "Hardware" tab and then click on "Device Manager". On this opens, to go the bottom where is says "Universal Serial Bus Controller" and expand it. Right click on everyone of the entries named "USB Root Hub", go to the last tab called "Power Management" and take the checkmark out for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Make sure you do it for ALL the "USB Root Hub" entries and then restart the computer, try again.
Take care,
