Default Why not switch carriers

Please Login to Remove!

We have been with T-Mobile since back in the voicestream days. We are thinking like 7 years at least. My only complaint is I want a 7290. I've been talking with the wife and she agrees that since they won't release the 7290 to individuals then we should just switch to someone who will give me what I want.

We have the family plan with 800 minutes and unlimited everything else (nights, roaming, long distance etc...) at a cost of $69 and it appears Cingular gives you 1100 minutes for the same price. Anybody use a 7290 on Cingular? How is the service? How about in the Denver area? How is their customer service, tech support etc...?

What have I failed to consider about changing carriers?

Service is great. No real problems with CS. I love the 7290 and it is a great device. plus you have rollover and free cingular mobile to cingular mobile calling. The data plan seems to be decent. Tech support isnt bad, my bet is just like everyone else's. they are friendly and helpful (in my experience), but to be honest, there are somethings they just dont know. However, that could happen to any carrier. My opinion is go with Cingular. They always have new phones and I have never had a problem with signal coverage or MY BILL (the main reason i switched from Altell)

I did think of one thing, we will have to buy new SIM cards for all the phones which also means paying an activation fee for each phone. Sine our other phones are not unlocked this will mean buying all new phones. Should I just be able to call TMobile and have all of our existing phones unlocked?

Do you have the media works plan? 3megs of internet doesn't sound like a lot, does this include email?

Do you have the family plan? How many phones are included in the $69 charge?

Two quick notes:

IIRC, the prices for Family Plans on Cingular's website only include one line. You need to add $9.99 for each additional line, including the second. (i.e. a $69.99 Family Plan with two lines = $79.98)

Unlimited BlackBerry data on Cingular = $44.99/month
vs. T-Mobile at $19.99/month for unlimited BWC or $29.99/month for unlimited BES

So in dollars and cents, Cingular will end up costing you $34.99/month more vs. T-Mobile if you're a BWC person, or $24.99/month more if you're on BES.

That's $419/$300 extra a year.

I'm not against Cingular, but it seems like a lot to pay just to get a 7290 now. IMO, once T-Mobile has an adequate supply of T-Mobile branded 7290s, they'll open it up to consumers. Or at least that's how they've done it with their 7100ts and HP 6315s.

Also, T-Mobile's upped their $69.99/month family plan to 1000 minutes. (And yes, that includes 2 lines of service. :D) You can call and switch it to anytime if you want.

I think if your only complaint is that you want a 7290 it seems like a bad reason to switch. I ended up buying a Cingular 7290 while they were still selling them unlocked. They should be available shortly to T-Mobile customers. If you're really in a serious rush, have you tried calling a corporate sales rep? I've known individuals on personal plans who have purchased the 7100t and 7320 via their corporate sales reps. The T-Mobile site can refer you to one.

You can also buy unlocked 7290's on ebay. That's what I did a month ago. They may be a bit more expensive but if you don't want to wait for TMO to release them it's an option. Just pop in your T-Mobile SIM card, call to change your account to Blackberry service and you are good to go. I have been a happy T-Mobile customer for years and they are much cheaper montly overall than Cingular. Something to consider.

No media works plan. I have unlimited data plan 44.95. that is email. I pay for internet browsing per use (no media works plan).

No familly plan because all of my family has own phone plan with cingular so its free to call them. However, i have heard good things about the family plan. Just no need for me.

If your complaining because you can't get the 7290 right now, then I think you have some growing up to do. I'm guessing they will be out in less than 2 weeks, 1 week perhaps. A wise man once said: "Good things happen to those who wait"

You must have the unit you want or you wouldn't make a comment like that. Also remember, it's the early bird that gets the worm and snooze you loose!

FYI... Just won an unlocked 7290 for $242 on eBay. Some boys will never grow up!

Also, the saying is good things come to those who wait but not to those who wait too late!

Eh, I think everyone's been extremely anxious for a new toy once or twice in their life. ;) No need to "grow up" if you ask me.

I guess you were right, I should have been patient. I got my BB from ebay today. The wife took it and loved it so much that she asked me to get her one. Then I dropped in my SIM to find that it wasn't unlocked as advertised. The wife was madder than hell and went totally off. I was so mad that I just fumed and took it. I emailed the seller since he advertised it as unlocked but havn't heard from him yet.

I then called TMobile to let them know I may have to switch to Cingular depending on what the seller says. The guy looked at my account and long story short, I have a new contract and an TMobile 7290 on the way for $214.99. Now I don't know how to break the news to my wife before it arrives.

I could send the Cingular one from ebay off to bongos to have it unlocked but I plan to go the distance with disputes to ebay and paypal. Worst case, I can put it back on ebay advising that it is locked to Cingular. What are your thoughts, the one from ebay was new and in an unopened box. Should I go the distance with the seller and deal with the wife about getting me a new one from TMobile or should I just get it unlocked and give it to the wife? Should I try and get her one for $214 the put this one back on ebay? Why didn't the good lord give me patience?

My life really sucks right now!

edit: My new TMobile account includes 3 months worth of free unlimited data. Everyone was really nice and felt bad about my situation and that they couldn't help. I feel like I want to rejoice but I am madder than hell!!!

This is what you do:

Well first, report the guy as a scammer, because he scammed you.

Second, file a dispute with Paypal, and get your cash back. It may take a while, but for how much coin you put out for it, it's well worth the wait.

Thirdly, take your wife out for a nice dinner once you get that money, and buy her some flowers, flowers will ease the pain.

You can also contact Ebay and have them deal with this. In my experience, Ebay has been very good with making things right.
