Default Voice vs Data connection out of Country

Please Login to Remove!

My partner went 8 hours into Mexico. Once crossing the border the phone functions immediately ceased to work(no surpise there) However, the PIN and e-mail continues to work.

I have NO idea if we will be charged for this but it baffles me that data works and voice does not..when usually data is the first one lost here in the states when you are in a bad spot?

Who's your provider?

If it's Cingular, you'll pay $.02/kb for international BB data (Canada + Mexico are the same as Tibet). You have to enable international voice roaming on Cingular as a separate thing, and the 611 reps rarely know what to do. Ask them for international roaming AND the package for the region you'll be going to. My feature list includes (I travel some) for voice...

INTERNATIONAL ROAMING $0.00
ROAMER ADMIN FEE EXCLUSION $0.00
/INTL ROAM TOLL N/C $0.00
/INTLRM MEX/CAN $.79 $0.00
/INTLRM W.EUR $1.29 $0.00
/INTLRM AUSTRALIA $1.69 $0.00
/INTLRMS/C AM/CAR $1.99 $0.00
/INTLRME.EU AS/PA $1.99 $0.00
/INTLRMMIDE/AFR $2.49
