moving all exchange 2000 mailbox to a different server

hi,

i am in the process of moving all of my exchange 2000 mailboxes (including the BES mailbox) from one exchange server to a different exchange 2000 server (different name, different IP). are there any gotchas or steps that i need to do on the Blackberry side to make this a seamless transition? We are running BES 4.0.

Thanks!

I don't know about BES 4.0, but you may need to go through setup again on your BES server to redirect it to the new Exchange server.

Is the server name going to be the same as before, or different?

I've just done that for my Exchange 2k to 2k3 migration.
First I moved the BESAdmin mailbox to the new exchange server, left it a bit for the domain to sync then ran the "Edit MAPI profile" util (On Start/Programs/Blackberry Enterprise Server" and changed the server name in the MAPI profile and did a "Check Name". Then I rebooted the BES server.

When it came up I used my BB and sent a test message or two...They all worked fine.

Next I moved each of the mailboxes over to the new Exchange.

I left it for 20 minutes for the domain to Sync and then looked on the BES Manager and it had automatically detected that the users had moved and changed the server name for them all to the new server.

According to tsupport, instead of waiting for 20 minutes, move the mailboxes and then if you restart the BES services (or reboot the BES) it will pick up the changes when it restarts

Hope that helps
Merlin

Or you can run handheldcleanup, a handy little tool that is on your BES. it will rescan your mailboxes with out restart or reboot. It looks for mailbox moves and notifies the BES accordingly. It will also adust your besadmin mailbox move info with out having to edit your profile.
