Default Rogers: Pin-to-pin cost between Can&US?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys I'm the new guy here. I did search for an answer and I learned that pin-to-pin messaging is free however I need to know whether that is the case when chatting with someone accross the Can/US border? Rogers customer care reps keep telling me different answers. Anyone know for a fact?

Thanks.

PIN to PIN does work between devices - no matter where they are located - US/Canada/Europe, etc.

The 'free' part depends on the Blackberry data plan you have since PIN messages use data. If you do a lot of PIN to PIN, and you have a small data plan, you may go over the plans allowance and wind up paying overage fees. If you plan to use it a lot, I'd recommend an unlimited plan.

Oh, wait, Rogers doesn't have that.....

I BBMessenger(pin to pin) with my buddy in Austrailia and do not get charged anything extra ie long distance or roaming charges etc.... As juwaack68 noted it's depends on your plan as far as usage since canadian providers do not have unlimited data plans.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Ditto the others-- I use PIN often with my bro-in-law when he is travelling in India, El Salvador, etc., no additional charge.

I have been hanging around here for awhile and still have not purchased a Blackberry, mostly because of the lack of an adequate data plan with unlimited quota. Telus 'Mike' seem to have the highest rated plan but it pales when compared to plans offered in the United States. Because of this (sadly) I have decided not to purchase a Blackberry (at least just yet) I will hold off until a better deal comes up (although I am afraid that might never happen)

Yes -- it only uses data from your data plan. You're not billed per PIN message and unless you exceed your data plan limit you won't be billed. My wife and I use them and BBM all the time when she's traveling internationally (Eurpope, Australia, Asia) to keep in touch.

As long as both users have a data plan it charges by data plan, not like text how it uses the amount you use. Someone added me as a friend from Austrailia and I live int he US so no charges at all.

Pinning uses very tiny amounts of data and come off of your allotted BlackBerry data pack. While you're anywhere in Canada and you are sending/receiving pin messages you don't pay any long distance or data roaming charges regardless of where the other person is. If you are outside of Canada and sending/receiving pin messages then you will incur data roaming costs.
