Default Business email on blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I'm a newbie....both to the forums and the world of blackberry. I was searching through the websites and have a specific question to which I couldnt find a clear answer...so any help would be appreciated:
my company has a BES but I purchased my own berry (mostly for personal use) but want access to the corporate email once in a while. I dont need the full BES access (BIS imap is adequate) - but the person in my IT group doesnt seem to understand what I need to get started.
I tried setting up IMAP (BIS) using the server name that the IT group gave me but it doesnt work - any ideas on what they/I might be missing ?
Alternatively, is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance for your help

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

This issue can only be resolved by your IT department. Has your company email administrator enabled public POP or IMAP access to your mailserver?

Is it possible that your company does not allow this type of access? If you're using Exchange, a work around (for all employees) is to use Outlook Web Access to access email while not at work (but at another PC). With that logic, they see no reason to have mail being sent to unsecured email accounts....at least that's how it's done at our company.

Best to go back to IT and find out why....they may not be playing dumb.

If you are trying to access your company's mail server using BIS it's not going to work unless the mail server is accessable via the Internet and is running POP3 or IMAP.

...or BIS can access it via OWA (and BIS can't use all OWA setups though I'm not sure what determines whether it can or not).
