Talking Backup/restore....different devices

Please Login to Remove!

is it possible to say backup a pearl device and then restore (files individually) to a newer non pearl device?

Or is it better to do a fresh install of data?

What device are you talking about restoring to? I recently used the Switch Device Wizard to go from a Cingular 8800 to Sprint 7130e. The restore worked for the most part, but I got some weird stuff, too, since the 7130 is so different. Nothing major, though. But had to reinstall a couple of 3rd party apps.

Can't do a selective restore - it's all or nothing.

EDIT: I should know better.....selective restore is under Advanced. Duh. Long day.

Depends on what you are selectively restoring. You should have no problems with Messages, Contacts, and Calendars. If you are not sure then do a full restore.

thanks, it would be restoring stuff like this - pd lists, saved messages, passwords, shop magic items, etc.

so it is possible to restore just these items under "advanced" tab correct?

I am hoping to get the curve when it comes out I have the pearl now.

Yep, just go into the Advanced function and restore. I know for devices that will be activated on a BES, that some databases can only be restored BEFORE the activation. Not sure about BIS, though.

so how do I get the new BB to receive the email accounts from BIS?
do i change the PIN or keep the same one from the original pearl device?
do i just plug in the new BB, Desktop Manager, and it will set it up for me?

Sorry for all the questions, just dont want to screw it up!

You'll have to go to your BIS website and change the PIN and IMEI number on the BIS account. Then all your emails will go to the new device.
