Default Little help with EDGE?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, i'm a new Blackberry owner, just bought my 8800 yesterday and i am enjoying it thouroughly. However, one small gripe is that i cant seem to get the capitol EDGE in the top right corner, only capital GPRS.

Now to get the GPRS to work i had to call up T-mobile UK (My contract is with them) and get them to activate my blackberry internet for an additional 5 a month, which was a little annoying as the sales person had said with my Web n Walk unlimited internet i'd be all set (Guess thats sales people for ya). So after this phonecall i received a message saying it was done, restarted my phone and i was able to get onto the internet, receive emails, the lot. However, i never have been able to get EDGE working. Does this incur an additional charge or should it simply work? Could it be that i am in a location that doesnt have coverage for EDGE?

If anyone else is living in Lancashire, England and can get connection, or knows anything about it i'd be grateful if you could enlighten me. Also, if anyone else with experience with T Mobiles "Web n Walk" and uses Blackberry internet on their service has any tips for me i'd apreciate it. Being a little wary now that i'm gonna get a hefty bill at the end of the month from more hidden charges or small print that i missed after having to pay additional for internet access.

Thanks in advance.

Does T-Mobile UK support EDGE? Most carriers in the UK skipped EDGE and went right to 3G...

I'm not sure, i've been trying to dig around on their site but didnt find much. It does mention it in the instruction book though, and every now and again it is dotted around the webpage, just no dedicated page for it that i have found yet.

May be a combo of things.
1. If you're only paying 5 for your data, you definitely will not have EDGE. In the US, full data plans for the BB start at $29.99 (about 15.22).

2. You may also not be in an EDGE area. Have you tried to call TMO?

Ah, thanks for the tip. I will indeed ring them again just to check, but i wont be paying extra just to get EDGE. The GPRS is fine for me as i am now.

Also, The T-mobile unlimited internet that i have covers using the blackberry internet right?

That is not how they do it in the states, I would call and make sure so you don't get one of those 300 bills

Well i called up and they said the internet is unlimited upto around 3GB, which i shouldnt have gone over by a long shot. Got this from someone at the customer service who asured me i shouldnt get anymore bills, so i guess i got something to argue if i get a hefty bill through.

Well, soon i should be getting a letter through the door giving me a pin number so i can access all my phone charges/outgoings etc online, so then i will see if i am getting any charges through for using the internet. This will hopefully be before the bill comes through so i'll have time to sort anything out.
