Unhappy Help....I screwed up

Please Login to Remove!

Okay.....got my new Pearl last week and have the opportunity today to play with it. Installed the desktop manager and decided to delete some language accessories on the phone "just to make more room"

well, now I don't have my browsers OR my help feature. Probably more but that is what I noticed. When I went to add the browser back it is grayed out?? Now what.

My new mantra: I will never try to get clever with a new electronic device again.

Wirelessly posted (8703e Sprint: BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

I would download the handheld software and run the .exe on your PC, then re-sync. Even if it is the same version you already have, it will reinstall the handheld software and thus restore all the stuff you deleted.

Hope this helps. I remember doing that to a windows 3.1 box many years ago. I deleted the bios because it was taking up too much room. Didn't know what bios was, and for some reason that pc never booted again.

I would go to your carrier's website. Usually carrier.com/blackberry

i hate to seem totally clueless....but i checked my pearl and it is v.4.2.0.73 (Platform 2.2.0.41)

When i go to the Cingular download site it has various options for handheld software download.

Most say v. 2.1

I just don't want to download the wrong thing. I appreciate everyones patience

Don't install it over the old one... Delete the old OS from Control Panel in Windows. Navigate to the folder on the PC where the OS is installed and delete the folder(s). Then install the one you just downloaded... After that if it is still not listed (it should be) then resend the service books to the device.

You should also remove and instal the Desktop Manager to make a complete and fresh start..

I guess i need to have the phone connected to the computer? When I go to add/delete I only see the one I just downloaded. Of course, I am probably missing a step here. I guess my question is how do i delete the OS from the phone itself.

No.... Delete Desktop Manager and the Handheld from the PC... Download them both and install.... No need to clear the device out...

if you are trying to get Browser back (i just read the whole thread) have you tried this:

I deleted and reinstalled the desktop software, had service books sent (but it only said that my email would be sent to me). I connected the phone to the computer and
The browser is still grayed out as is the "blackberry 4.2 system software".

Do I need to reinstall the handheld software??

Did you run the handheld software .exe file, then run the Application Installer?

Do you have the Browser on your handheld? I think the browser is always greyed out on the Desktop Manager.

Do a register now (Options, Advanced, Host Routing Table, dropdown menu, Register Now).

Check to see if your browser works.

Do you have your email setup through the BIS or BES?

thanks for the help....

1)I did the "register now"
2) There is no browser on my handheld (there were 2 now none)
3) Through BIS
4) I downloaded the handheld software and ran it on my computer. It then took me to the desktop manager and I connected my phone......wasn't sure what to do after that.
after I connected I went to the installer but it showed the browser grayed out so I couldn't add it.

and no I have NOT pulled my hair out YET...but close

did you get this fixed yet? The only thing I forgot to have you try is send service books from your BIS account.

A lot of people fixate on clearing space but it's really not necessary unless you're very low. "Very low" on a Blackberry isn't the same as "very low" on a PC. Even 1MB is a lot of space on a BB (unless you intend to load more MP3's, ringtones, pics, videos, etc but those should really go on the media card and not the device memory anyway).

If you can't get the browser reloaded I'd think that you need to reload the OS on the device -- assuming that pushing the service books isn't doing the trick.

takeshi, I agree with that in principle, however, I have noticed on here that some user's call logs and message logs beginning to disappear even with 9-12mb free. I know my wife's 8100 will eat the call log around 10mb free.

Hence, I think it is wise to reboot once a week regardless, as a safety measure.
