Currently, I'm on a Cingular FamilyTalk plan. The two year contract is about to end, and I want to get a Blackberry. I was looking at the Blackberry 8800 on Amazon.com for $99, but it appears that they do not allow you to upgrade a FamilyTalk plan or a part of it.

Is the only way to get this $99 deal to terminate the current FamilyTalk plan when the contract ends and then sign up for a new line as an individual (which would mean a new phone #)?

What I'd like to do is get the 8800 with the Amazon.com deal, and keep my current phone number.

I am uncertain about internal porting of numbers. It would be dependent upon the specifics related to family plan to individual plan. It would also depend upon how the regs interpret the number portability law (if it is included with "internal" provider switches versus one provider to another).
