| There are a number of good options available if you search the forums.
Berry411 is a good free solution that will provide weather, directions, and (I think) movie times.
If you're willing to pay a subscription, Handmark's Pocket Express also works quite well for this sort of thing, but it's around $7/month for the subscription (although the best part is that it downloads all of the content so that you can read it offline, which is a huge advantage if you take underground transit).
There are also a couple of different RSS Readers out there for the Blackberry. They will basically download RSS news feeds (which should be available from most of your favourite online news sites), and give you headline summaries and links to open the actual articles in your web browser. I personally use Newsclip for this, and am very happy with it.
How much of a synopsis of each article you get in RSS will depend on the feed itself rather than the application... For instance, I find that Yahoo News gives me a good paragraph summary, where as the Globe & Mail's RSS feeds only give me a single sentence.
You should be able to find links to all of these in the "Aftermarket Software" section on the BlackBerryForums. |
