Default SIM Card Security

Even though the data is stored on the Blackberry, is it possible to enable SIM Security, specifically the PIN number so that Blackberry (and more importantly, the SIM) prompts for a password when powered on?

I e-mailed Nextel (yielding a 1 e-mail per business day response time) and they said I can't because the BB SIM is "different" than a regular nextel SIM (even though I have successfully swapped it with my wife's I730 SIM).

PS: Nextel's default SIM password?
