Please Login to Remove!

I have T-Mobile service and a friend of mine gave me a blackberry 8700g he upgraded too a Pearl and didn't send the phone back. Is there anyway I can get insurence on it even though I didn't buy it from them.

Yes, there is as long as you have homeowners insurance.(depending on your insurance company) Call your insurance agent and they can go through the details. For most it is far cheaper and less of a hassle then dealing with insurance through your carrier.

I don't know about your homeowner's insurance... but mine carries a $500 deductible for lost/stolen/damaged property. Unless someone steals my entire office, it doesn't make financial sense to file a claim.
I can buy a new phone for a lot less than $500.

Many insurance companies have special riders for "technological" things (computers, cell phones, etc.) with much lower to no deductible at all.

Try out SquareTrade. It's a warrenty and not insurance. It's what I have on my phone since AT&T doesn't let us have insurance on our new phones. I don't know how good it is. I haven't had a claim to see.

You should be able to call Tmobile and add insurance on any new device within the first 7 days.

Thumbs up

The last I knew, Safeware was no longer insuring phones (as a new contract anyway).

Homeowners insurance, as a rider, is an option, but depending on your state's regulations, a claim could cause your entire homeowners insurance policy to be cancelled.

I haven't found a great answer either, but I would love for someone to provide one for us!

It isn't AT&T's restriction it is the Insurance companies restriction. Mostly because if a BB is stolen all one has to do is replace SIM and one is in business! Where as with VZW, Alltel they can BLOCK the ESN and keep a device from ever being used again (in theory)
